Friendly staff, great breakfasts
4 of 5 stars

Following the closure of the last hotel in Harpenden, and with a family wedding happening, we had to find some alternative accommodation for a couple of couples in a hurry. The Silver Cup did a first class job. Feedback from those that stayed was excellent- clean rooms, great breakfasts, and most strongly really friendly staff.
It may not be the poshest pub in town, but that was more than made up for by the warmth of the staff.
Harpenden can probably not support an hotel of its own, so the pubs in the town have a great opportunity to increase revenue through providing good accommodation. On the feedback of my guests who we put up at the Silver Cup, this pub has clearly got its act together.

Really enjoyed our 2 night stay here. B&B/pub is situated in a lovely area in Harpenden, perfect for a short break. Rooms were very clean and well appointed. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Check-in was very easy. Food is exceptional, especially the breakfast! Lovely, comfortable, relaxed feel to the pub. There was an event taking place in the pub area on our final evening, and it was very busy with a lovely buffet served. Catch one of Tony the landlord's events if you can. Very, very pleased with our stay. Thank you to Tony and staff for your kind hospitality. Highly recommended.

A great experience at this very friendly bed and breakfast in the heart of Harpenden run by Tony and his team. The food was Excellent from a full english breakfast to sandwiches. I can recommend Turkey and Cranberry which was a favourite of my daughter and be sure not to miss Sunday lunch. It was a pleasure to be looked after by such great people.

Great stay at busy pub and made to feel so welcome. Not so usual these days. Wonderful scrambled eggs and bacon, even though they are not on the menu! This pub ticks all the boxes. We can recommend room 3 for being quiet.

What a warm welcome from the landlord "Tony"
This place is a real find, located just near the cricket green as you enter Harpenden .
Not only,Knowledgeable in fine wines, Tony is also a fabulous chef! The food is outstanding and by far the best you will find in this town.
Everything from breakfast to lunch , a light snack at the bar ( the burger & chips are to die for ) or dinner in the evening was without doubt better then any 5* restaurant in London I've been too!
I would highly recommend this bed and breakfast, we have stayed Here before ( mainly on route to Luton before an early morning flight) I wouldn't think about staying anywhere else.
If you are like me, fussy about where you go, like a great atmosphere, fabulous food and wine and a lovely room for 1 or 2 nights look no further just come here!
By the way their Sunday lunch is amazing too!
We'll be back soon.
Thank you Tony for making yet another stay so memorable !

Just had yet another fabulous Sunday lunch at the Silver Cup. If you are looking for quality food and great service you cannot go wrong here. Tony and the team are definitely worth a visit if you are in Harpenden and looking for a real Sunday roast.

Just had a great night out at the Silver Cup. Started with lobster bisque followed by oysters and then home made meat balls in most fabulous gravy. All washed down with an excellent bottle or two of fizz. Staff were great with nothing to much trouble, highly recommended.

What a fantastic night had by all! I requested a hot food buffet and WOW, we received fantastic gourmet food everyone could not stop talking about all night ! The pubs traditional charm created a great atmosphere and all the staff were really friendly and efficient - the chef even took the time to come and find me for a chat. Some of our party stayed the night and were completely satisfied with the facilities and loved the breakfast! Now Tony Reeder has settled into his new role after only recently taking over the pub I can recommend it as the perfect venue for any celebration but it also accommodates for a morning coffee, quiet drink and much more...

We had a big party in the summer, with around 100 people at the Silver Cup. It was an excellent event, which we planned well in advance with Tony, the landlord, who proved to have a huge amount of expertise on running events, and provides us with great advice. The food was truly first class (a wonderful Hog Roast) and the service by the bar staff and Tony was fantastic.

We stayed at The Silver Cup for one night and had a great stay.

We were made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived as the staff have a "nothing is too much trouble" approach to service. The room was clean, comfortable and well appointed - excellent value for money in our opinion. The breakfast was fantastic - a traditional full English - done to perfection.

The atmosphere in the bar is friendly and welcoming. The bar snacks are fairly special too - we especially enjoyed the balsamic pickled onions and the homemade pork scratchings.

Many thanks to Tony, the landlord, for his hospitable and friendly approach to front of house.
I can't recommend this place enough - convenient for access to Harpenden High Street (2mins) and London, via Harpenden Station (5-8 min walk).

We will definitely be returning to The Silver Cup - excellent value for money and a charming, traditional pub full of character. Thanks.

I have stopped at The Silver Cup a half dozen times over the last 5 years. My last visit last year was not too clever, but as the pub had new owners I thought to give it a try.
The new landlord was very heplful and welcoming on arrival, I asked to borrrow an iron and the young bar lady even offered to do it for me. I declined the kind offer , but a nice touch.
The rooms have not changed at all but my room was more than adequate for my needs , clean and in good repair.
The atmosphere in the bar areas was much more welcoming than in previous visits , so that speaks volumes for the new team. I was eating out with friends so did not sample the menu, however if the breakfast is anything to go by,then the food has to be good.
My full cooked breakfast was freshly made and served with quality toast , tea and preserves , a proper breakfast. Top marks.
The visit was a reminder of the first stays from a few years ago, I will go back and wish the new owners every success.

The Silver Cup, its name worth!
For some reason we were forced to look somewhere else to stay in Harpenden, so we landed at the Silver Cup, apparently under new management. It turned out a great hit.
There was a friendly Landlord Tony, very welcoming and accommodating.
We stayed three nights. It was just fine and the food we had was great.
A good base to visit London.
We will see you again!

Full of charm and olde style. Very small so can achieve a good atmosphere with a dozen or so customers but if you want a lively pub look elsewhere.

Staff always very friendly. A great winter pub, nice to sit outside in better weather.

The beer selection is good. It is a year or so since I ate there but the quality was very high if not generous.

We had a very enjoyable experience in The Silver Cup, the landlord and all staff were more than willing to go the extra mile to make our visit very satisfying, the range of drinks were very vast and reasonably priced. We also had a meal when we visited which was exceptional with a menu to cater for all, the produce was fresh, tasty and good value for the money.
Our overall experience was excellent and will be revisiting and recommending this pub to others.
